Job Summary 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Shift Lead Engineer to join our team at Agrial Fresh Produce in Wigan. As a core member of the Engineering team, you will report to the site Maintenance Manager and will strive to deliver best practice, world class engineering standards and support the operation to deliver business needs. You will be responsible for that day to day leadership of shift members, including prioritisation and allocation of workload and deploying labour based on the maintenance schedule and requirements of the individual tasks.

Working hours:  4 on 4 off Shift Pattern - 12 hour shifts - 7am/7pm starts/finishes 2 days | 2 nights

Our Wigan site is a well-established business unit that processes and distributes pre-packed, ready to eat, fresh salad bags and bowls to some of the UK's well-known retailers and restaurants. We are based on Martland Park Industrial Estate, which is ideal for travel on the M61, M6 and M62.   

Main Responsibilities 

  • Working closely with Shift Operation Managers and other support teams daily to ensure direction of labour and planned engineering activities fully support our operation.
  • Assessment of engineering team skills and behaviours, assisting in up skilling and training on trade skill, site equipment & specific site processes.
  • Attend the daily production meetings to ensure the maintenance plan is communicated and any equipment issues are resolved and prioritised accordingly. 
  • Drive a proactive continuous improvement culture within your team, encouraging root cause thinking to prevent failure reoccurrence.
  • Management and development of department processes; including shift handovers, briefs and defect reporting/resolving.
  • Providing expert front-line Engineering knowledge to support the Production operation. 

Skills and Experience Required 

  • Technical Hands-On-Engineering Experience, through recognised time served apprenticeship ideally within food manufacturing, although ex-military route candidates also actively considered. 
  • Technical qualifications in either mechanical or electrical at a minimum NVQ Level 3
  • Knowledge of Planned Maintenance and PPM development.
  • Broad knowledge of Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Mechanical, Electrical & PC/Inverter Assets.
  • Specific experience of prioritising resources in a busy environment.
